Foster in Deep Water: Fights Conceicao for Title

Foster vs Conceicao Boxing Odds Could Lead to Upset

O’Shaquie Foster puts his WBC super featherweight on the line against Robson Conceicao this Saturday at Prudential Center.

  • Foster is 22-2 and the current -210 favorite with Foster vs Conceicao boxing odds, but he’s not a sure thing to retain his title.

His recent fights raise concerns, and with two losses on his record, he’s not invincible despite being the top-ranked fighter in the division.

Concerns for Foster

There is some trepidation with boxing odds for Foster, and it’s worth noting.

  • The 30-year-old is only a -210 favorite, and we priced him around -300, so there is some concern about his recent performances.

The title holder got past Abraham Nova by a split decision in February, and we weren’t impressed. He knocked Nova down in the 12th round, which could have been enough to steal it, but it was convincing.

He was expected to roll through that fight without much trouble, and Conceicao is a better fighter than Nova in our opinion.

However, we credit his boxing schedule, which has seen him fight three times since 2022, including title defenses against Rey Vargas and Eduardo Hernandez.

He defeated Hernandez with a TKO in the final round, so it’s clear Foster does some of his best boxing in the late rounds. However, if he starts slowly on Saturday, the task might be too much.

Foster is giving his opponent plenty of respect, which is a good thing.

“I think he’s a great fighter,” Foster said. “I have wanted to share the ring with him for a while just because he has been in the ring with the other champions. I think he’s gonna be a great opponent and separate myself from certain guys that already faced him. “He just had a draw with Navarrete. I’m looking at this fight as a unification fight. I’m not taking him lightly at all.”

Foster vs Conceicao boxing odds aren’t screaming with confidence for the champion, so the best value could be elsewhere.

Fourth Time Lucky for Conceicao?

Conceicao has fought for three world titles and he hasn’t had the best luck.

Controversy surrounds the Brazilian fighter after he lost a split decision to Oscar Valdez, which many believed he had done enough to win.

He then lost to Shakur Stevenson, who would have his titles stripped after missing weight. He was fighting a heavier fighter, and although outclassed on the night, it was still a valiant performance.

Conceicao battled to a draw against Emanuel Navarette despite suffering two knockdowns. Had he avoided those knockdowns, he might have claimed the WBO title. All three of his career non-wins occurred in title fights.

  • The 35-year-old is tried and tested, and we think the +170 odds are worth entertaining with boxing picks. He wants to avenge those unfortunate losses. And he meets Foster who isn’t fighting at his best.

The 2016 Olympic gold medalist has class on his side and he wants to create history.

“Being the first Brazilian to achieve both an Olympic medal and a professional world title is a dream that motivates me every day,” Conceicao said. “I want to inspire the next generation of Brazilian boxers and show that with dedication and perseverance, great achievements in the sport are possible.”

Ranked a surprising 21st, Conceicao is still considered a world-class boxer. That’s why the Foster vs Conceicao odds aren’t overlooking him.

  • Getting +210 is a fair price for a fighter of his ability.

The Title to Change Hands

Boxing often results in good storylines, and Conceicao winning the WBC world title would make a great headline.

The Brazilian has all the makings of a champion, and at 35, this could be his last chance to wear the belt.

  • Foster isn’t fighting up to his usual level, and although he’s the rightful champion, we’re not happy taking the -210 odds.

There is better value with the underdog in Newark, and Conceicao could finally realize his world title dream.

  • Back Conceicao to win at +210, and expect the fight to go the distance. We’re likely to see all 12 rounds of the title fight, and it should be in the hands of the judges.
