European Giants Meet in Group Stage

Group D: Netherlands vs France Euro Odds

Mbappe Out for France With Broken Nose

France feared the worst on Monday after Kylian Mbappe left their opening Euro 2024 match vs. Austria with a broken nose. Mbappe reportedly won’t need surgery on his broken nose but will be out vs. the Netherlands on Friday.

Both France and the Netherlands won their opening matches and this is a game that could, in essence, decide Group D. While France defeated a tough Austria side 1-0, the Netherlands pulled off a 2-1 comeback win over a Robert Lewandowski-less Poland. Before betting on the Netherlands vs France Euro odds, stick around four our match preview and odds discussion.

Netherlands vs France Head-to-Head

The Netherlands and France were in the same group in UEFA Euro qualifiers. France’s Kylian Mbappe scored four goals in two matches vs. the Oranje as Les Bleus picked up two wins. France destroyed the Netherlands 4-0 at the Stade de France and Mbappe scored both goals in a 2-1 victory in Amsterdam.

France have won seven of their last eight matches vs. the Netherlands, in all competitions. Still, this is the first chance to bet on the Netherlands vs France Euro odds since 2008. There, the Netherlands took down France 4-1 in a Group C match.

Netherlands Complete Comeback

The Netherlands opened up their Euro 2024 schedule with Poland and the Oranje were -175 favorites. Adam Buksa, starting in place of the injured Robert Lewandowski, headed in a corner in the 16th minute to put Poland up 1-0. It wasn’t long before Nathan Ake found Cody Gakpo, whose deflected shot equalized the match. In the second half, substitute Wout Weghorst scored the winning goal for the Netherlands and Ake was involved once again.

Bart Verbruggen also had a good Euro debut in goal. Plus, the Netherlands still dominated possession without injured midfielders Frenkie De Jong, Teun Koopmeiners and Marten De Roon. Without that trio for the rest of the tournament, Tijjani Reijnders, Jerdy Schouten and Joey Veerman should continue to play in midfield.

The Euro odds list the Netherlands as +240 dark horses to win Group D despite their opening victory. Coach Ronald Koeman does have one of the most balanced teams in the tournament. Virgil van Dijk and Ake at the back means the Oranje should be able to compete with any team in the tournament.

France: Have Impressive Forward Depth

Monday certainly wasn’t Kylian Mbappe’s best day. The new Real Madrid man missed a clear cut chance that could have put France 2-0 ahead vs. Austria and later broke his nose and had to exit the match. The collision with Austria’s Kevin Danso was nasty but Mbappe reportedly doesn’t need surgery and will likely return after the Group Stage.

In any case, Mbappe’s first half cross led to the game’s only goal. Austria’s Max Wober inadvertently headed it into his own net. Austria made the France national football team bend but not break and N’Golo Kante put in a signature performance for Les Bleus.

He provided stability for France and made a chase down interception on a late Austria counterattack. He’s proven he can be a solid option for Didier Deschamps and France with Aurelien Tchouameni still recovering from an injury. France won as -185 favorites on Monday and they’re also favorites to win the group.

With one of the best rosters in the tournament, many think France will go the distance. France kept a third straight clean sheet on Monday and William Saliba and Dayot Upamecano were solid in the heart of defense.

Deschamps has a lot of options even with Mbappe out. All-time leading scorer Olivier Giroud can play up top on Friday and he also has Bradley Barcola, Kingsley Coman and Randal Kolo Muani at his disposal.

Netherlands vs France Match Analysis & Odds

The Netherlands opened as +390 underdogs for this one and now they’re at +220 odds. The Oranje will feel this is an opportunity for them to pick up points, given how much Mbappe has hurt them in recent meetings.

France have dominated this matchup for quite some time regardless and are +130 favorites. With the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Thuram, Giroud and Ousmane Dembele, they still have offensive firepower even without their star player.

Currently, the Netherlands vs France Euro odds list a draw at +260. That would mean there’d be all to play for on the final Matchday of the Group Stage. The last nine meetings between France and the Netherlands have finished with a winner, though. Netherlands pk, +0.5 comes in at -102, while France pk, -0.5 sits at -118.

Bettors should also note the Netherlands have lost each of their last five matches vs. top 20 teams in the FIFA World Rankings. France can outclass the Netherlands in midfield and take control of this match even without Mbappe. With dangerous players on both sides, over 2.5 goals are priced at -122 odds.
