Rematch of Euro 2020 Semifinals

Group C: Denmark vs England Euro Odds, Match Preview

England Unconvincing in Opener

England scored just 13 minutes into their opening match at Euro 2024 vs. Serbia but looked quite unconvincing afterward. The match finished 1-0 and England lead Group C after one match, given Denmark’s 1-1 draw vs. Slovenia. On Thursday, Denmark and England meet in Frankfurt in a rematch of the Euro 2020 Semifinals. That match finished level before England scored a penalty in extra time to advance to the Final. As the Danes seek revenge, we’ll check out the Denmark vs England Euro odds.

Denmark vs England

Date & Time: Thursday, June 20th, 12:00 p.m. ET
Location: Deutsche Bank Park, Frankfurt, Germany

Head-to-Head

Denmark and England met three years ago in the rescheduled Euro 2020 Semifinals. Following Mikkel Damsgaard’s free kick for Denmark, Denmark defender Simon Kjaer accidentally sent a Bukayo Saka cross into his own net. The match finished 1-1 in normal time before England won a penalty in extra time. Harry Kane converted as England won 2-1 and advanced to the Euro 2020 Final. The pregame Denmark vs England Euro odds listed England as -137 moneyline favorites.

These sides also met in the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League, where Denmark went unbeaten vs. England. They drew 0-0 in Denmark and Denmark picked up an impressive 1-0 win at Wembley. The last four 90-minute matches between the two sides have finished with two goals or fewer.

Denmark’s Fairytale Ends Disappointingly

Denmark’s Euro 2024 got off to a fairytale start. Three years after Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in the Euro 2020 opener vs. Finland, the Manchester United midfielder scored Denmark’s opening goal at Euro 2024. Jonas Wind played a delightful flicked pass to Eriksen, who finished confidently past Slovenia’s Jan Oblak. Denmark went up 1-0, and they dominated possession for large swaths of the match vs. Slovenia. However, they conceded a late deflected goal and had to settle for a draw.

Striker Rasmus Hojlund was quiet but he did score seven goals in UEFA Euro qualifiers and should bounce back. Denmark’s lack of pace at the back can be exploited, and they’ll have to be careful on Thursday. Bukayo Saka is the English player most likely to cause them problems on the wings and Kasper Hjulmand may instruct left wingback Victor Kristiansen to hang back more often to provide the center backs with more help.

Denmark got off to a slow start at Euro 2020, with losses vs. Finland and Belgium. However, they managed to go on a run to the Semis after defeating Russia 4-1 in their Group Stage closer. This Danish side, who disappointed at the World Cup, know a loss could mean they finish outside of the top two in the Group C UEFA Euro standings. Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Morten Hjulmand set the tempo in midfield vs. Slovenia and they’ll be key once again on Thursday.

England Survive Serbia Scare

Jude Bellingham flexed his Ballon d’Or credentials on Sunday as he headed in England’s only goal of the match. Bellingham made a signature run into the box and Bukayo Saka picked him out 13 minutes in. Jude Bellingham’s stats are incredibly impressive for a midfielder. He scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in 42 matches for Real Madrid, in all competitions.

England looked in control of the match and like a contender up to that point but they retreated into a shell as the match went on. Coach Gareth Southgate’s tactics have been criticized, as England frequently play more defensively after scoring.

Instead of going for the jugular, England seem content to absorb pressure. That’s led to five straight Group Stage matches in European Championships with one goal or fewer total. England have kept five straight Group Stage shutouts but their defense is somewhat makeshift. Marc Guehi will continue to step in for Harry Maguire, who’s out of the squad with an injury.

Plus, right back Kieran Trippier will play at left back until Luke Shaw is fully recovered. England did enough to take down Serbia but they were disappointing on Sunday, given their talent level. Phil Foden is yet to impress in an England kit and Southgate will undoubtedly want more from him here.

Match Analysis & Odds

Recent matches between Denmark and England have been low scoring and the Denmark vs England Euro odds list under 2.5 goals at -138 here. England’s opening match did little to dispel the concern that their 1-0 friendly loss vs. Iceland generated. England’s scores have been disappointing recently. They’ve won just one of their last six matches and Denmark may see this match as an opportunity to take advantage.

However, England, who are still tournament favorites, are -154 favorites for this match. Granted, they haven’t lost a Group Stage match at a European Championship since 2004. Denmark come in as +500 underdogs but they are unbeaten in 2024 thus far. The current best price on a draw is +290 and that result wouldn’t be terrible for either side.

England -0.5, -1 sits at -115 odds but big Group Stage wins have been quite hard to come by for some time. Denmark +0.5, +1 at +103 seems to provide better value. England certainly have an excellent team on paper but there seems to be a lack of cohesion. Trent Alexander-Arnold was underwhelming in midfield on Sunday and we’ll see if that forces Southgate to make a change.
