Slovenia and Denmark were in the same group in Euro 2024 Qualifying. Now, the two sides will face off in their Euro 2024 opener on Sunday. Denmark, semifinalists at Euro 2020, will be looking for all three points especially since their next two matches are trickier on paper.
After taking on Slovenia, Denmark face England and Serbia. Still, Slovenia has been on the rise lately. Slovenia has an experienced goalkeeper and exciting young striker in Jan Oblak and Benjamin Sesko, respectively. Denmark and Slovenia were both in Group H in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Denmark picked up a 2-1 win over Slovenia at home and the sides drew 1-1 in Slovenia. Denmark managed to finish ahead of Slovenia in the UEFA Euro standings in qualifiers based on head-to-head. Slovenia: Group C Underdogs
Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko is one of the most in demand strikers in Europe. The 21-year old scored in his last seven games of the season for RB Leipzig and just extended his contract, which includes a €75 million release clause in 2025. With five goals in qualifiers, Sesko led Slovenia’s stats.
Aside from Sesko and longtime Atletico Madrid shot stopper Jan Oblak, there aren’t any big names in Slovenia. They still managed to go 7-1-2 in qualifiers and concede under a goal per game. Defenders Zan Karnicnik and Jaka Bijol will be key in Germany, while Andraz Sporar is Slovenia’s secondary goal threat. Sporar, who plays for Panathinaikos in Greece, scored three goals and provided three assists in qualifiers. Slovenia is also in solid form heading into Euro 2024.
This year, Slovenia defeated both the USA and Portugal in friendlies. Regardless, Slovenia are the underdogs in Group C at +1000 odds to win the group. Slovenia also comes in at -140 odds to finish at the bottom of Group C. To avoid that fate, Sesko will need to have a big tournament for coach Matjaz Kek’s Slovenia.
Plenty of Experience on Denmark’s Roster
Denmark were the darlings of Euro 2020, as they improbably reached the Semifinals after Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest in the opening match. Eriksen made a full recovery and is still a key player for Morten Hjulmand’s Denmark. However, Denmark greatly underperformed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as they finished at the bottom of their group.
Bettors should temper their expectations for Denmark at UEFA Euro 2024 but they should be able to reach the knockout stage. Rasmus Hojlund is the complete striker that Denmark has needed for quite some time. Hojlund, who recently won the FA Cup with Manchester United, scored seven goals in qualifiers.
Between Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Thomas Delaney, there’s plenty of experience in midfield. Kasper Schmeichel is still Denmark’s number-one keeper, while Denmark also has a solid defensive unit. They may struggle against Europe’s elite teams but Denmark is certainly one of the better teams at Euro 2024.

Bettors can find a draw at +260 odds, which would be a disappointment for Denmark. Both Denmark -0.5, -1 and Slovenia +0.5, +1 come in at -115 odds. Both meetings in qualifiers between these teams were close and we expect it to be that way on Sunday as well.
