2024 British GP Odds: Verstappen Vs Norris In betting Primer

The Two Leaders Came to Blows in Austrian Grand Prix, Likely Happens Again in Silverstone.

The most controversial finish of the 2024 Formula One season saw Lando Norris and Max Verstappen fight for victory. They collided, knocking Norris out of the race and dropping Verstappen off the podium.

Instead, Mercedes’ George Russell took the win. The two will likely face off again this week in Norris’ home race at Silverstone. The 2024 British GP Odds point to one of the closer fights of the year.

2024 British GP Odds: Favorites for Victory

  • Max Verstappen (-175)

A slow pit stop and used medium tires dropped Verstappen from a clear victory to a contentious battle for the win. With Norris not finishing, he ultimately finished fifth and extended his lead in the F1 points standings.

Verstappen’s has a mixed track record in Silverstone. He won the second race of the season there in 2020 and won last year from pole position. It’s one of his worst tracks by average finish on the calendar. The Red Bull should be strong here with the high-speed corners and smooth surface.

  • Lando Norris (+250)

Norris likely would’ve won the race if not for the terminal damage to his car in Austria. For the last three weeks, he’s had arguably the fastest car of the weekend. He’s drawn close to Verstappen on pace at this point in the Formula 1 schedule but it’s likely too late to fight for the F1 championship.

Norris should be strong at his home race this weekend. Last year, he started and finished second for his first podium of the season.

The McLaren is a better car at this point in the season than last year and Norris is an improving driver. He should be better prepared to fight for the win with Verstappen because of their clash in Austria.

  • Oscar Piastri (+1400)

Piastri likely would’ve won the race last weekend if not for a very close track limits violation in qualifying. He’s improving in his second season but still lacks the tire management skills of the frontrunners.

Last year, Piastri nearly earned his first career podium at Silverstone but fell short due to a late safety car. He’s in a much better place this time around and could earn the win with some help from strategy or a safety car.

  • George Russell (+1600)

Russell took his first win since Brazil 2022 thanks to that late contact between Verstappen and Norris. His win and teammate Lewis Hamilton’s fourth-place finish puts to bed whether or not Mercedes’ latest upgrades are paying off. The team is now consistently the third-fastest car behind Verstappen’s Red Bull and McLaren.

Mercedes can’t win outright on raw pace alone but some luck could make these Formula 1 betting odds worth a flyer.

  • Lewis Hamilton (+1800)

Hamilton likely would’ve contended for a podium if not for the damage sustained in an early battle with Carlos Sainz Jr. Silverstone is historically one of his best tracks and should be grounds for a good result, even though a win seems like a stretch at this point.

2024 British GPOdds: Pole Position, Podium Odds

The top two in the pole position odds are the same as the race win with Verstappen (-175) leading Norris (+250). Though they’re rightfully the favorites, they’re not the only ones with a chance at pole.

  • Piastri (+900)

Piastri’s shown his speed over a single-lap with his near-pole position in Monaco. This track should suit the McLaren pretty well and his pace could shine through on Saturday to complicate the Norris-Verstappen battle.

Oddsmakers favor Verstappen (-800) and Norris (-450) to make the podium on Sunday. Here’s who else we like:

  • Piastri (+120)

Again, Piastri’s pace and recent form are worth consideration. Red Bull (with Verstappen) and McLaren are the fastest cars on the grid right now.

With just one Red Bull likely podium finisher, Piastri makes the most sense to fill out the rostrum.

  • Russell (+160)

Russell would need to capitalize on an opportunity like he did in Austria to make the podium here. He could make it on pace alone but only if Piastri’s tire management falls short in race trim. If there’s another late safety car, he could seize that chance as well.

  • Hamilton (+175)

Hamilton should be closer to Russell this weekend because of his sterling track record at Silverstone. A second podium of the year would be in reach with similar caveats to Russell.

Points finish odds

Oddsmakers like the following drivers to finish in the top 10:

  • Verstappen (-2500)
  • Norris (-1600)
  • Russell (-1400)
  • Hamilton (-1400)
  • Piastri (-1400)
  • Sainz (-1200)
  • Charles Leclerc (-1200)
  • Sergio Perez (-1000)

Four drivers are at even (+100) odds: Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Nico Hulkenberg, and Pierre Gasly. Here’s who could break into that group:

Kevin Magnussen (+120)

The Haas driver earned his second points finish of the season last time out in Austria, one of the better tracks for the team. He could repeat that this weekend thanks to Aston Martin and VCARB struggling at this point of the season.

Alpine isn’t a proven top-10 contender at high-speed circuits. Their results in Canada were thanks to three top-10 regulars (Leclerc, Sainz, and Perez) all retiring.

Alex Albon (+900)

It’s a long shot but Williams has emphasized all-around speed instead of the peaky highs and lows of prior years. Another high-speed, front-limited circuit saw one of Albon’s best results of the season with 11th in Saudi Arabia.

It’s a very long shot that’ll likely require some help with DNFs and optimum strategy but it’s possible.

2024 British GP Odds: Predictions

Silverstone’s one of the oldest and most storied tracks on the calendar. Given its demanding, high-speed nature, it should be another exciting F1 race this weekend.

We like Norris (+250) to make amends for last weekend with a win from pole position (+250). Verstappen (-800) and Hamilton (+175) will join him on the podium. Beyond the favorites, we like Hulkenberg (+100) and Magnussen (+120) to make the top 10.
