2024 Spanish GP Odds: Verstappen favored for two F1 wins in a row

A thrilling Canadian Grand Prix saw Verstappen on the top step. Can he do it again?

Following a relatively ho-hum Monaco Grand Prix, the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix brought plenty of excitement for viewers.

Three drivers all had a good chance at victory, but in the end, it was Max Verstappen earning his sixth win of the season. It was a perfect bounce-back from his poor result in Monaco, and he’s favored to repeat that feat this week in the 2024 Spanish GP Odds.

2024 Spanish GP Odds: Winning driver

  • Max Verstappen (-225)

Red Bull was closer to the pace in Canada than in Monaco, and Verstappen’s racecraft kept them in the best position to win.

The mixed conditions in Montreal were a challenge but there’ll likely be no such issues in the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Verstappen is one of the best Formula 1 drivers on the grid, and the Red Bull should suit this track reasonably well.

  • Lando Norris (+500)

The Spanish Grand Prix was the first signs of better pace for McLaren in 2023. Norris qualified third and, if not for first-lap contact, likely would’ve fought for a podium.

This time, McLaren is squarely one of the top cars in the field. It should suit this circuit even better than in Canada where Norris had a good chance at victory. He should be in the fight this weekend.

  • Charles Leclerc (+750)

Leclerc went from the thrill of winning his home race in Monaco to a nightmare afternoon in Canada. Ferrari’s latest upgrade package is yet to be truly tested because of these results. In theory, they should be a contender this weekend but the last two Formula 1 races haven’t inspired much confidence.

  • George Russell (+2500)

Russell and Mercedes were the surprises of the weekend after the British driver qualified on pole position. He had the pace in the race to fight for victory, but a few costly mistakes took him out of the running.

Last year, Spain was one of the best results on the F1 schedule for the team and Russell as he finished second to Verstappen. It’s tough to determine how track-specific his result in Canada was so it’d be a risky bet to back Russell for victory.

Pole position

The pole position odds have a similar order to the F1 odds for victory.

  • Verstappen (-150)

Verstappen and Russell set equal times in qualifying but Russell earned the pole position because he set the time first. That’s incredibly unlikely to happen again and Verstappen should have a better chance here.

  • Norris (+500)

Norris was just 0.021 seconds behind Russell and Verstappen in qualifying in Canada. The McLaren should be better around the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit than in Montreal. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him get the better of Verstappen in qualifying.

  • Leclerc (+900)

Ferrari is again a bit of an unknown due to recent results. Regardless of the car’s race pace, Leclerc is one of the best drivers in qualifying on the grid. He should extract the most out of the car over one lap and could earn his second pole position of 2024 this weekend.

2024 Spanish GP Odds: Podium odds

Oddsmakers favor a Verstappen (-600), Norris (-190), and Leclerc (-165) combination for the podium in the Spanish Grand Prix. Here’s who could break through:

  • Oscar Piastri (+335)

Piastri couldn’t follow his best Formula 1 results of the season in Monaco with a good showing in Canada. Unfortunately, he lost out to a surprisingly quick Mercedes package and just couldn’t keep up with teammate Norris.

But he’s come close to the podium multiple times with fourth in Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Imola. It would not be a shock to see him there this weekend.

  • Russell (+350)

Russell was disappointed with third place in Canada after the pace he showed throughout the weekend. Mercedes may not be as quick in Spain but again, the team performed very well here last season. Russell seems to be getting the most out of the package at this point in the season and could challenge for a podium here.

Points finish

Oddsmakers like 11 drivers to finish in the top 10:

  • Verstappen (-1400)
  • Norris (-1200)
  • Leclerc (-1000)
  • Carlos Sainz (-800)
  • Russell (-700)
  • Hamilton (-700)
  • Piastri (-700)
  • Sergio Perez (-700)
  • Fernando Alonso (-350)
  • Lance Stroll (-140)
  • Yuki Tsunoda (-120)

Here’s who could break into that group by the checkered flag come Sunday:

  • Daniel Ricciardo (+120)

Ricciardo responded to criticism with his best qualifying performance of the season in Canada. He qualified fifth and finished eighth, both bests of the season.

If he brings the same energy to Spain, he should be in for another good result. VCARB is set to bring a floor upgrade and that could be especially good for performance in Spain.

  • Nico Hulkenberg (+175)

The Haas drivers gambled early on in Canada with full-wet tires and shot up the order before losing out on pace and dropping to the back. Still, the team seems to have solved its tire wear issue during the race.

Hulkenberg is a standout qualifier and could put the car high enough to snipe a point in Sunday’s race.

2024 Spanish GP Odds: Predictions

The Formula 1 grid is back in Europe for a triple-header starting this weekend. It should be an exciting three weeks for drivers, teams, and fans alike.

For this weekend, we like Verstappen (-225) to win but Norris (+500) to take pole position. We like Verstappen (-600), Norris (-190), and Russell (+350) to make up the podium. For points finishers, look for Ricciardo (+120) to finish better than one of or both of the Aston Martin drivers.
