Can The Yankees Regroup In Toronto?

Yankees vs Blue Jays Betting: New York's Pitching Wins the Series

After a disappointing two-game stretch against the New York Mets, the New York Yankees will look to get back on track with a four-game series against a more critical foe. They’ll head on the road to take on the Toronto Blue Jays, an AL East rival. The Blue Jays are just 36-43 on the MLB season and could be sellers by the MLB Trade Deadline. Ultimately, the Yankees can’t afford a loss to a below-average club in this weekend’s series.

However, the Yankees played in last night’s game and waited out a rain delay. Their game against the Mets didn’t finish until nearly midnight. Therefore, the Yankees could come out sluggish in the opening game.

  • Still, oddsmakers have the Yankees in front, holding a -135 price tag. The total is also at 8.5, but the Over is juiced to -118.

We have much to cover in this Yankees vs Blue Jays betting preview. Let’s get right to it!

Gleyber Torres Benched

The Yankees have temporarily benched Gleyber Torres. After a terrible game on Tuesday, Aaron Boone elected to give him the day off yesterday, and per what he told the media, today as well.

Boone just wants Torres to reset. Torres’s OPS is .628 this season, but his career OPS is .789. He’s also batting just .215, which is the 14th-worst among all MLB players who qualify.

He’ll likely be back in the lineup tomorrow.

What Do The Blue Jays Do Next?

The Toronto Blue Jays have underperformed all season long. But what should the Blue Jays do if this lasts up to the MLB Trade Deadline?

The Blue Jays never intended to sell before the season began, but they might have to pivot and make necessary moves to help the team get back on track.

Ultimately, with the Trade Deadline about five weeks away, the Blue Jays’ roster could look very different from what it does now.

âš¾ Game 1 âš¾

  • Thursday, 7:07 pm ET
  • Carlos Rodon vs Jose Berrios

The Yankees will send Carlos Rodon to the mound to begin the series. He’s a left-handed pitcher who has allowed a .229 ISO and wOBA of .346 to his last 117 batters. While Rodon has earned 23.1% of strikeouts, he’s still allowed nearly 35% of fly balls in the last 30 days.

However, lucky for Rodon, the Blue Jays’ projected lineup has hit a .065 ISO and wOBA of .238 against lefties over the last month. Only Vladimir Guerrero and Ernie Clement have put up consistent numbers against lefties over the last 30 days. Toronto doesn’t have many MLB-implied runs for this game.

Rodon should settle in nicely, even if he’s not racking up strikeouts.

On the other hand, the Blue Jays will throw Jose Berrios. He’s a righty with a .202 ISO and wOBA of .345. However, more surprisingly, he has struck out just 12.2% of batters over the last month.

The Yankees don’t have an insane lineup, either. However, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge have crushed righties, along with Austin Weells and Trent Grisham. There’s more potential in the New York lineup tonight.

Back the Yankees at -130.

âš¾ Game 2 âš¾

  • Friday, 7:07 pm ET
  • Marcus Stroman vs Yusei Kikuchi

New York will give Marcus Stroman a shot to beat his old club for Game 2 of the series. Stroman has only added 11.5% of strikeouts over the last month, but he’s still earned 48.4% of ground balls and has limited lefties to a .115 ISO and wOBA of .309.

While he’ll likely face more righties in the Blue Jays lineup, there are no real threats other than Guerrero and Davis Schneider.

Meanwhile, Toronto will run it back with lefty Yusei Kikuchi. He’s allowed a .239 ISO and wOBA of .404 despite earning 24.5% of strikeouts. Kikuchi has also kept walks down to 6.9%, but that hasn’t been good enough. His ERA is now at 4.00 this year.

Although Torres will be benched on Thursday, we look forward to him being back in the lineup on Friday. He’s been much better overall against lefties. If the reset works, he’ll help the Yankees score enough to defeat the Blue Jays.

âš¾ Game 3 âš¾

  • Saturday, 3:07 pm ET
  • Nestor Cortes vs Chris Bassitt

In Game 3 of the series, Nestor Cortes will pitch for the Yankees. He’s another lefty with the luxury of facing the Blue Jays’ lineup that has struggled to hit lefties throughout the last month.

Cortes has limited walks and has earned more than 21% of strikeouts. He hasn’t been perfect, but he’s held MLB teams to a .179 ISO and wOBA of .313, which isn’t bad.

Meanwhile, Chris Bassitt will take the hill for the Blue Jays. He’s a righty with limited opponents to a .051 ISO and wOBA of .287. He struggled against lefties earlier this season, but he’s still pitching well. Consider the Under as one of our MLB picks for Saturday.

âš¾ Game 4 âš¾

  • Sunday, 1:37 pm ET
  • Gerrit Cole vs Kevin Gausman

The Yankees will throw Gerrit Cole, who has two baseball games under his belt. He’s struggled in both, but he’ll figure it out over time. On the other hand, Kevin Gausman will throw for the Blue Jays in the finale.

He’s allowed a .271 ISO and wOBA of .343 to his last 100 lefties. Juan Soto is someone to watch out for. Take the Yankees in the final game. They’ll win the Yankees vs Blue Jays betting series.
