Dodgers Eye Double-Digit Lead In AL West

The Los Angeles Angels (29-45) head 45 minutes West to take on their county rival Los Angeles Dodgers (47-30). The 2024 MLB standings show the Dodges have built a nine-game lead in the American League West, while the Angels have struggled without Mike Trout in the line-up; 13 ½ back of the Seattle Mariners.

Tonight’s starters will be Patrick Sandoval (2-8, 5.24) for the Angels against Landon Knack (1-1, 2.61) for the Dodgers. The Boys In Blue are a -180 favorite with a total of 9 (under -120). Sandoval Gives Angels Best Chance This Weekend

Now that Jose Soriano has been placed on the 15-day IL, Patrick Sandoval becomes the Ace, which he was supposed to be anyway but a 2-8 record isn’t exactly where he or the Angels hoped he would be at this point in the season.

One thing we know about players facing former teams, they want to impress and there are very few who can do it better than Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani who will face the Angels for the first time since leaving trading red for blue after six seasons.

With Mookie Betts out of the lineup with a broken left hand, Ohtani has stepped in for Betts, hitting .444 with two homers and seven RBI in four games since the injury. It seems the Dodgers dig into their farm system at will for effective starters whenever they please with Brandon Knack being the latest call-up from Oklahoma City to boost the parent club. Knack was 3-2 (3.54) at AAA but at the MLB level, the 26-year-old has been sensational giving up no more than two earned runs in any of his four starts.

Dave Roberts would like to get five innings from Knack and then hand it to the best National League bullpen to finish it. As for Ohtani, he says he’ll be emotional but more so when the Dodgers go to Anaheim to play in early September.
