Dodgers Hit Windy City To Battle Lowly White Sox

Dodgers vs White Sox Lines Lean Heavily Against Home Team

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to increase their lead in the NL West when they begin a three-game series with the host Chicago White Sox on Monday night. The MLB playoff picture already looks like it will include the Dodgers again, while the White Sox are nowhere near joining the postseason party.

Los Angeles (48-21) had a rare Sunday off prior to this series after splitting a two-game series with the Los Angeles Angels this weekend. The Dodgers have a comfortable 8.5-game lead in the NL West standings over the second-place San Diego Padres.

Chicago has lost four of its last five, including dropping a series finale against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. The White Sox (21-58) are at the bottom of the AL Central, sitting 16 games behind the fourth-place Tigers with the worst record in baseball.

To no one’s surprise, the Dodgers vs White Sox lines favor the visiting team in Monday’s series opener. Betting on the moneyline, you can get Los Angeles at -132 odds, while Chicago is listed at +122.

The White Sox are -145 to win the game when getting 1.5 runs on the run line, compared to the Dodgers at +125 when giving those runs. The over/under for Monday’s contest is set for eight runs, with the under getting -120 and the over -100.

All three games of this series are scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET first pitches at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.

Pitching Matchups

Game 1: James Paxton (Los Angeles) vs Garrett Crochet (Chicago)

Los Angeles will have left-hander James Paxton heading to the mound for his 14th start of the season in the series opener. Paxton is 7-1 with a 3.65 ERA this season, striking out 43 in 66.2 innings of work. He’s been very good in his last two starts, pitching a combined 13 innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out 10 and walking three.

The White Sox will counter with lefty Garrett Crochet, who brings a 6-6 record and 3.25 ERA to his 17th start of 2024. The 25-year-old ranks second in the majors in strikeouts with 124 in 88.2 innings and has double-digit strikeouts in three of his last five outings. Crochet took a loss in his last start on Wednesday against the Houston Astros, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings, his first time giving up more than two runs in 10 starts.

Game 2: Bobby Miller (Los Angeles) vs Chris Flexen (Chicago)

Originally from the Chicago suburbs, 25-year-old Bobby Miller gets to make his second start of the season near his home when he takes the mound for the Dodgers on Tuesday. The right-hander is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in four overall starts in 2024, striking out 20 in 18 innings of work. He’s been up and down this season, allowing five runs in two of his starts, including his last against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, and a total of two runs in the other two.

RIghty Chris Flexen gets the call for the White Sox in the second game of the series. Flexen is 2-6 with a 5.03 ERA in 16 appearances (14 starts) this season, striking out 57 in 73.1 innings. He’s been inconsistent this season, but he is coming off a start against the Astros on Thursday in which he allowed one run on five hits over six innings, striking out six and walking three.

Game 3: Gavin Stone (Los Angeles) vs Erick Fedde (Chicago)

The Dodgers will have one of the hottest pitchers in baseball getting the start in the series finale on Wednesday in righty Gavin Stone. The 25-year-old is 8-2 with a 3.04 ERA in 14 starts, recording 63 strikeouts in 80 innings. Stone has won his last four decisions, including his last start, against the Rockies on Thursday, in which he went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Right-hander Erick Fedde will make his 17th start of the season in Wednesday’s contest for Chicago. Fedde is 5-2 with a 3.05 ERA, recording 86 strikeouts in 94.1 innings. The 31-year-old took a hard-luck loss in his last outing, lasting seven innings against the Tigers and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three and walking one but not getting enough run support.

Can White Sox Keep Ohtani, Dodgers In Check?

One of the reasons for MLB lines favoring Los Angeles is that it has one of the best offenses in baseball, powered by possibly the best hitter in the game today in Shohei Ohtani. The reigning AL MVP is now in the NL, where he’s among the odds leaders for that award, especially with his recent numbers. Ohtani leads the majors with a .321 batting average and ranks third with 23 home runs.

He enters this series with home runs in his last three games and RBI in his last seven contests. He’s tied for fifth in baseball with 57 RBI, adding 21 doubles, two triples and 61 runs scored, the last number ranking third in the majors.

On the other side, the White Sox have struggled to generate offense for much of this season. Chicago ranks last in baseball in scoring (243 runs) and batting average (.219) and next-to-last in total hits (569).

First baseman Andrew Vaughn comes into this one on a seven-game hitting streak and leads the White Sox with a .239 batting average and 35 RBI. Shortstop Paul DeJong has been the best power hitter for Chicago this season, hitting a team-high 14 home runs and driving in 30 runs.

Dodgers Take Care Of Business vs White Sox

The Dodgers vs White Sox lines understand the disparity in these two teams, with one among the favorites to win the World Series and the other in the running for baseball’s worst record. Look for Los Angeles to jump on White Sox pitching in this one, making Chicago press at the plate and have its troubles getting any runs.

This series has mismatch written all over it, and that’s how it should be bet. Put your money on the favored Dodgers in both MLB picks and parlays in every one of these games, and you should get wins in all of them.
