Guardians vs Orioles Best Bets

Two of AL's Top Teams Meet in Baltimore

A pair of AL heavyweights meet in Baltimore, as the Cleveland Guardians (49-26) visit the Orioles (49-28) for three games starting Monday. The Guardians have been playing well, sweeping a weekend series from Toronto. The Orioles enter the series on a bit of a down note after getting swept in Houston. Tanner Bebee will get the start for the Guardians, while the Orioles will counter with Cade Povich. The MLB odds have the Orioles -108 with a total of 8.5. There are several games in the series that look as though they could make the cut as Guardians vs Orioles best bets.

Cleveland’s offense is performing better than expected. Few people believed the Guardians would be in the top five in scoring, but the team is getting it done at the plate. Cleveland is No. 8 in home runs and in the middle of the pack in team average.

The Guardians are No. 6 in team ERA, which is pretty solid. The bullpen has been the star of the pitching staff. Cleveland has 27 saves and nine blown saves. If the starters can pitch deep enough into the game for the top setup men to take over, the Guardians are in good shape.

The Orioles also are scoring runs, although the bats were quieted a little bit the last two games in Houston. Baltimore is leading the league in scoring, with Gunnar Henderson doing his part. Henderson has climbed to No. 2 in the MLB MVP odds for the American League. He has been getting plenty of help from his teammates.

The Orioles’ pitching staff is in the top five in team ERA, although you wouldn’t know it against Houston. The bullpen has been solid but has just 24 saves in 38 attempts. The Orioles need to pick it up there a little bit.

Monday’s Game

Bibee doesn’t have the best stats on the Cleveland staff, but he is winning at the highest percentage. The Guardians are 12-3 when he starts and he’s pitching to a 3.64 ERA. Bibee’s road numbers are a little bit better than when he starts at home. Cleveland has gone 6-1 on the road with Bibee on the mound.

Povich struggled a little in his debut but was decent in his next two starts. The Orioles are 2-1 when he starts and he has a 3.94 ERA. He had some control issues last start, so he was removed after 4 2/3 innings despite allowing just one run. In his lone home start, he pitched six shutout innings against Atlanta.

The odds are pretty much what you would expect in this game. It’s hard to go against the Guardians when Bibee’s on the mound, so Cleveland is probably the right side in this one. It’s a tough call, so not a game to use for your Guardians vs Orioles best bets.

Tuesday’s Game

Logan Allen gets the start for Cleveland, while Cole Irvin takes the mound for the Orioles. Allen hasn’t pitched well, but Cleveland is still 9-6 when he starts. His ERA is 5.23 overall and 4.27 when he pitches on the road. Allen has been a bit inconsistent, mixing in some good starts with some poor ones. The MLB scores show the Guardians are 10-4-1 in totals with Allen on the mound, but just 4-4-1 when he starts away from home.

Irvin has been solid for Baltimore, although his last two outings haven’t been his best. The Orioles are 9-3 when Irvin starts on the season and he has a 3.32 ERA. Baltimore is 4-3 at home with Irvin on the mound, although his ERA is a bit better at home. Irvin isn’t lasting many innings, reaching six innings just once in his last six starts.

Baltimore will be good-sized favorite in this one. If the line is -150 or less, Baltimore should be one of your MLB picks today. The odds could be a shade high for a best bet, however.

Wednesday’s Game

The Guardians are going to start Carlos Carrasco in the series finale against Grayson Rodriguez. Carrasco is coming off one of his better starts of the season, but he’s been up-and-down the past month-and-a-half. He’ll have a good start, followed by a poor one. The Guardians are 5-8 when he starts this season and 3-5 when he starts on the road. His away ERA is 5.95, so he doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

Rodriguez is having a decent season, although he was roughed up at his last start. The Orioles are 9-4 with Rodriguez on the hill and 4-2 at home when he starts. His home ERA is just 2.21 and he bounced back nicely after his previous poor start.

Rodriguez isn’t a big-name pitcher and that will help keep the line a bit reasonable. Use Rodriguez and Baltimore for one of the Guardians vs Orioles best bets in this game.
