Red-Hot Astros Look to Win Again in Toronto

The Astros vs Blue Jays MLB Odds Has Tuesday's Game Approaching Pick'Em Status

Can Veteran Pitcher Berrios Stop the Bleeding for the Slumping Blue Jays?

The Houston Astros continued to surge with another strong start by Hunter Brown and a pair of home runs to open the series with the Toronto Blue Jays – with the team’s 10th win in the last 11 games. The Astros vs Blue Jays MLB odds have Friday’s matchup approaching Pick’em status.

Houston has won three of the four games against the Blue Jays this season with the Astros outscoring the Blue Jays 20-5. Toronto won three of the four home games versus the Astros during the 2023 season. Six of the last seven games between the Astros and the Blue Jays finished under the total.

The MLB betting lines have Toronto priced at -116 to even the series with +106 odds for Houston to win in Toronto for the second day in a row. Take a look at the +170 odds for Toronto to cover at -1.5 on the run line.

Houston is eighth at +2000 in the odds of winning the World Series with Toronto well back at +1500 in the championship odds.

Pitching Matchup

Veteran Jose Berrios gets the call for the Blue Jays. He matched his longest outing of the season the last time out when he allowed two hits and two runs in seven innings in a 9-2 win against the New York Yankees. He allowed six hits and one run in six innings but did not factor into the decision when the Blue Jays topped the Astros 2-1 on April 2. He was 1-1 with a 2.76 ERA in two starts against the Astros in 2023.

The 24-year-old Spencer Arrighetti has allowed two runs or less in six of his last 11 starts. He had season-highs with seven innings pitched and 10 strikeouts against the Colorado Rockies in his last start. This will be his first start against Toronto.

Astros Emerge in a Rare Low-Scoring Game

After having at least eight combined runs scored in five of the last six games, the Astros were in a pitcher’s duel in the series opener with the only scoring in the first eight innings being a home run by Jeremy Pena before Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning.

Ernie Clement had two of Toronto’s four hits and his home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The only loss in the last 11 games for the Astros came when Houston was 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position and starting pitcher Ronel Blanco allowed three home runs in 5.2 innings.

Alvarez, Jose Altuve, Jon Singleton, Yanier Diaz, Alex Bregman, and Victor Caratini are all hitting over .300 during this hot streak. Keep that in mind when looking at the Astros vs Blue Jays MLB odds.

Four of Houston’s last six games played in July went over the total.

Blue Jays Heading in the Wrong Direction

Toronto has sunk to the bottom of the American League East standings after losing 12 of its last 17 games.

The Blue Jays are the only team in the AL East to have a losing record both at home and on the road.
Offense is not the issue with the Blue Jays but the pitching is another story.

Over the last 13 games, only the Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees have higher ERA than Toronto. The Blue Jays have allowed 24 home runs during that stretch. That could factor into the Astros vs Blue Jays MLB odds.

Seven of the last eight games went over the MLB picks total for the Blue Jays.

Astros vs Blue Jays Injury Update

First baseman Vlad Guerrero and third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa are questionable for Toronto while catcher Danny Jansen is on the paternity list. Pitcher Jordan Romano and Yimi Garcia are out for the Blue Jays.

Outfielder Kyle Tucker is out for Houston as are pitchers Jake Bloss, Justin Verlander, and J.P. France.

Astros vs Blue Jays Betting Preview

It wasn’t too long ago that both the Astros and the Blue Jays were under .500. The Astros, despite injuries to some key players, are figuring things out. If things don’t change in Toronto, some big names could be on the move for the Blue Jays.

Houston is 30-31 as a favorite and 11-8 as the underdog while Toronto is 28-20 as a favorite but just 10-23 as the underdog.

When looking at the MLB scores and odds, Toronto has covered in just 15 of 41 home games with 21 games landing over the total. The Astros have covered in just 14 of its 40 road games.

Houston has won five of its last six road games and is 6-0 over the last six games versus American League teams.

The Astros are 15th in the MLB team strikeout totals and look to move up after facing Toronto.

Six of Toronto’s last seven home games against Houston finished under the total with the total set at 8.5 for this matchup.

With the way Berrios and Arrighetti have pitched recently, taking the game to finish under the 8.5-run total could be the best option.
