Will Las Vegas Provide Solid Defense In Back-to-Back Games?

Aces vs Sky WNBA Odds: Expect Plenty Of Points In This One

The Las Vegas Aces are finally trending in the right direction. With two consecutive wins over Seattle and Connecticut, the Aces are two games above .500.

The former WNBA champions are looking for a three-peat this season but got off to a horrendous start. But with the return of Chelsea Gray, the Aces have plenty of momentum.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky have also won two consecutive games, including a massive home win over the Indiana Fever. Angel Reese tallied 25 points and 16 rebounds to help the Sky win at home.

Still, Chicago’s defense is problematic, and it will likely be a problem against one of the WNBA’s best offensive teams.

Therefore, the Aces are still -10.5 on the road against the Sky. Meanwhile, the total is the highest of the four-game WNBA slate, at 170.

Let’s take a deep dive into the Aces vs Sky WNBA odds for this regular season matchup.

Las Vegas Aces vs Chicago Sky

Aces vs Sky WNBA Odds & Trends

The Las Vegas Aces didn’t just win their last two games. They also covered as favorites in both matchups against the Seattle Storm and Connecticut Sun. While they’re still 5-9 against the spread, the Aces are starting to play up to expectations.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas has hit the Over in eight of 14 games to begin the year.

On the other hand, the Chicago Sky are 6-9 against the spread and 6-9 straight up. They’ve also hit the Over in eight of 15 games this year.

That said, Chicago hasn’t defeated the Aces since June 21. They’ve lost seven consecutive games to the Aces since that point.

While this is the first meeting between the Aces and Sky this season, the Aces earned back-to-back covers and won against the Sky at home last September. The Aces covered a 16-point and 17.5-point spread in this matchup.

This info should help you decide on your WNBA picks.

Kate Martin, The All-Star?

Kate Martin was shocked when she even heard her name called in the WNBA Draft earlier this year. But with some success on the Aces’ roster off the bench, Kate Martin is getting fan votes for the WNBA All-Star Game.

Martin is currently 12th in fan voting, but that likely won’t be good enough to get her into the game.

That said, Martin isn’t an All-Star, and fans probably shouldn’t be mocking the WNBA like this. After all, Martin is 6th on the Aces in scoring behind legitimate All-Stars like A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Kelsey Plum.

Angel Reese Showed Them!

Angel Reese might’ve been a little jealous earlier in the year that Caitlin Clark was getting the most credit for building up the WNBA.

While Clark is still the biggest reason for the WNBA’s success, Angel Reese proved why she also believes she’s a part of the WNBA turnaround.

Reese and the Sky added their first win against the Indiana Fever this season. It took until the third game, but the Sky got the job done at home behind Reese’s 25 points and 16 rebounds.

Right now, the Sky are fighting for a final spot in the WNBA playoff bracket. If Reese continues to play like this, they’ll be there.

Will We See Any Defense?

The Las Vegas Aces have one of the best offenses in the WNBA. They’ve scored 87.2 points per game and added 104.3 points per 100 possessions, which are second in the WNBA behind the Liberty.

In addition, the Aces have shot a 50.9% effective field goal percentage and have drained nearly 51% from inside the arc and 34.1% from downtown. Again, both rates are in the top six of the league.

However, while the Sky aren’t as good offensively, they’ve still added 79.9 points per game and had 83.1 possessions per 40 minutes. They’ve only hit 42.6% of field goals but will face a Las Vegas squad that has allowed opponents a 44.4% field goal percentage.

The Aces are elite offensively but just can’t consistently figure it out on the defensive end. They had their best performance against the Sun last time out, holding Connecticut to 74 points, but we haven’t seen them add back-to-back defensive performances like that.

The Aces have allowed teams to shoot nearly 39% from downtown and have allowed an effective field goal percentage of 51%.

They’ll limit teams from the foul line, but it doesn’t matter much when you’re giving up points at the rate the Aces have.

Meanwhile, the Sky have defended better from the field but have sent teams to the foul line at a much higher rate. Opponents have a free throw rate of 15.8% and have added more than 19% of points from the foul line against the Sky this season.

Las Vegas will have their way offensively and then add more points from the foul line. Even if the Aces miss more shots, they’ll be effective on the offensive glass. Chicago leads the WNBA in offensive rebounds per game.

Therefore, after looking at the Aces vs Sky WNBA odds, consider the Over 170 for this exciting WNBA game.
