Angel Reese
Current Team:
Chicago Sky
Jersey Number:

Age:
22 years old
Height:
6’3″ (191 cm)

USA
Positions:
Forward

Angel Reese has been the standout WNBA player this week, and she’s showing why she’s a star of the sport. The Chicago Sky forward has been putting up big numbers, and she has been a double-double machine. Angel Reese’s stats read well, she is proving more valuable than many picks taken above her in the 2024 draft.

Racking Up Double-Doubles

Reese has nine double-doubles from 15 career games, including three double-doubles last week. The 22-year-old is our front-runner to win Rookie of the Year, well ahead of Caitlin Clark, and the numbers don’t lie.

The former LSU player averages 13.2 points per game, which is only narrowly behind Clark, who was meant to be a scoring specialist. However, Reese averages 11.1 rebounds, which is an incredible stat. She might not be the highest-paid WNBA player yet, but we think it’s only a matter of time before her rookie contract expires.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

It has been an incredible start to her WNBA career, and the seventh draft pick in 2024 is showing teams that didn’t take her a thing or two. Becoming the first rookie to record seven consecutive double-doubles is something special, and she’s excited for what’s to come.

“It’s super exciting for myself,” Reese said. “I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”

The Sky still has a losing record, but Reese is doing everything to change that. Angel Reese’s stats are the best of any rookie and some of the best in the entire WNBA.

Skies the Limit for Reese

Reese could become one of the best Sky players in recent history if the last week is anything to go by. The hype around Clark was warranted, but there is no doubt that Reese is the best rookie right now.

It’s an exciting situation for the Sky, who need a dominating player who can take them to the promised land.

WNBA scores today are often in the mid-80s, so having a player who can post around 13 PPG is more valuable than it would be in the NBA where they average a much higher score. Reese also chimes in with 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game, so she adds value to the Sky in all areas.

We expect many WNBA free picks to include the Sky simply because Reese is playing. She is our pick to win Rookie of the Year, and if she keeps averaging a double-double, there’s no way she loses.

Coming Off a Career High

Angel Reese’s stats are improving with every game, and she comes off a career-high 25 points against the Indiana Fever. She led the team to an 88-87 victory over Clark’s Fever, and we like the sound of that.

“I think what she’s done with her platform has been absolutely incredible,” Clark said. “She has an entire fanbase that has supported her and what she did at Maryland and then LSU. Obviously, I’ve played her for a very long time, and she’s been a tremendous player. It’s been fun getting to compete against them. I think it’s been really good for the game.”

Reese went 8-for-12 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. She’s showing you can play old-school ball and be effective, as she has taken only three 3-point field goals from 15 games.

We like the days when bigs wouldn’t be asked to make 3s, and Reese is sticking to her lane. The sport is better for it. Scoring 25 points, which came from 36 minutes of play, is exceptional output. She also had 16 rebounds, so the stats were off the charts.

Reese is easily WNBA Player of the Week, and we don’t see her slowing down. The paint is there to be dominated, and Reese could be the most exciting player in the future.
