New QB Kirk Cousins Should Beef Up The 2024 Atlanta Falcons Stats

  • Raheem Morris is the new head coach, and Kirk Cousins joins as quarterback.
  • Falcons are favored to win the NFC South and have strong playoff prospects.
  • Expected to win 10 games, making Morris a contender for Coach of the Year.

Despite higher expectations, the Atlanta Falcons finished with a 7-10 record last season. The Falcons have drafted well over the last few seasons but haven’t been able to get the anticipated production from those young NFL players.

Finally, the Falcons made a change, hiring Raheem Morris to take over as the head coach of the program.

Meanwhile, the Falcons also added Kirk Cousins to articulate the offense. The veteran will have young assets all over the field to target, which made adding a veteran like Cousins appealing.

Let’s discuss the projections for the 2024 Atlanta Falcons stats below.

The Underrated Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are favorites to win the NFC South. However, when the media and public talk about the playoffs, the Falcons are never mentioned.

Ultimately, the Falcons have a lot of potential after signing Kirk Cousins at quarterback. Last year, the Falcons dealt with a combination of Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke. Now, neither of those two quarterbacks are even 1 or 2 on this year’s depth chart.

Ridder isn’t on the team anymore, and Michael Penix Jr. figures to be ahead of Heinicke on the depth chart after he was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Cousins doesn’t have Justin Jefferson to throw the ball to, so he likely won’t break any NFL records. But Cousins still has Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier at running back. He’ll also have Drake London, Darnell Mooney, and Ronadale Moore as wide receivers. Finally, he’s got one of the most exciting tight ends in the league, Kyle Pitts.

The offense needs to be talked about more.

  • Super Bowl Odds: Could Atlanta Surprise?

The Atlanta Falcons have taken the proper steps to be competitive. However, the Falcons don’t have a win-now mentality.

Think about it. The Falcons just signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal and immediately drafted Michael Penix Jr. with their first overall pick. Instead of using the pick on Penix Jr., the Falcons could’ve added a playmaker for Cousins or beefed up the defense. That would’ve helped the 2024 Atlanta Falcons stats even more.

Atlanta probably could’ve even traded the pick for more assets. But instead, they added a quarterback who won’t see the field in multiple years. That’s not a win-now mentality.

The Falcons opened as +3000 to win the Super Bowl. They’re now at +2400. The talent is there, but they’ll unlikely surprise and win the whole thing.

  • Conference Odds: Take It Easy!

The Atlanta Falcons look much better on paper this year than last. They also have a higher probability of winning the NFC than in the previous season.

With that said, the Falcons would have to get through dominant teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Green Bay Packers. While the talent is comparable to some of these teams, the stability isn’t.

  • Division Odds: The NFC South Is Lacking

The Atlanta Falcons don’t need the best record in the NFL to make the playoffs. Ultimately, they’ll have to do enough to win the NFC South.

That might not be too hard.

After all, the Falcons are in a division with the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Panthers were the worst team in the NFL last season. Meanwhile, the Saints didn’t impress with Derek Carr as a quarterback, and Tampa Bay didn’t make any major additions. The Buccaneers just kept what they had.

Don’t expect much improvement from any of these teams. If anything, the Falcons made the most moves in the offseason and now easily look like the best team in the division.

Atlanta is currently the favorite to win the NFC South. They opened at -105 to win the division and have only increased since then.

  • Regular Season Wins: Could The Falcons Win 10 Games?

When the win totals for the 2024 NFL season were released, the Falcons were heavy favorites to earn at least ten wins. Thanks to a favorable 2024 NFL schedule that hasn’t changed up to this point.

The Falcons should start the season with a win against Pittsburgh. They’ll also likely be favorite against the Saints and Buccaneers in Weeks 4 and 5.

With three wins through Week 5, the Falcons should beat the Panthers, Seahawks, and Buccaneers, giving them six wins up to Week 9. A win against Denver is likely, a win against the Vikings is very probable, and a win against the Raiders in Week 15 should happen.

At that point, they’d be at nine wins and would need one more win against the Giants, Commanders, and Panthers.

  • To Make Playoffs: Back In For First Time Since 2017

The Atlanta Falcons haven’t made the postseason since 2017. Although Atlanta could probably have a better roster heading into the season, the Falcons are still really good on paper, and it looks like they can earn 10+ wins if they put up the projected 2024 Atlanta Falcons stats.

The Falcons opened at -250 to make the NFL playoffs. The odds have slightly gone down, but nothing too crazy. We still think Atlanta should make the postseason this year.

AP NFL Regular Season Coach of the Year 2024-25

If the Falcons finish with at least ten wins, win the NFC South, and earn a visit to the playoffs, Raheem Morris has to be considered for the NFL Regular Season Coach of the Year.

Morris is in his first season with a Falcons team that hasn’t made the postseason since 2017. He’ll be considered if he helps them get there in his first season.

He’s +1000 to win the award behind Jim Harbaugh (+900) of the Chargers. Morris would be one of our sneaky NFL picks.
