2024 NFL Cheat Sheet: New York Jets Stats & Odds

With the 2024 New York Jets Stats Translate Into A Long-Awaited Playoff Appearance?

Will A Healthy Aaron Rodgers Lead the Jets into the Playoffs?

The New York Jets thought they solved the decade-long search for a quarterback by acquiring former NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers. However, the betting odds changed when Rodgers suffered a season-ending torn Achilles’ tendon.

The Jets finished 7-10 and missed the playoffs by three games. The Jets were 2-1 when listed as the favorite and just 5-9 outright as the underdog. The Jets failed to cover as a favorite and were 6-8 in the NFL picks against the spread as the underdog.

New York was just 2-4 against fellow AFC East teams, so that is one of the things to look at when considering the 2024 New York Jets stats.

With Aaron Rodgers back, the hype surrounding the team leading into the 2023 season will return.

Hall, Wilson On the Verge of Stardom for Jets

The last thing the New York Jets expected heading into the 2023 season was for Zac Wilson, Trevor Siemian, and Tim Boyle to attempt more passes than Aaron Rodgers. Garrett Wilson had a 1000-yard season with those three players throwing the ball so imagine what will happen if Rodgers gets through the season without another serious injury.

Running back Breece Hall is also on the verge of stardom. Offensive tackles Morgan Moses and Tyron Smith were brought in to keep Rodgers upright.

Keep an eye on Rodgers, Hall, and Wilson as they could put up some huge numbers when it comes to the 2024 New York Jets stats.

Haason Reddick, Leki Fotu, and Javon Kinlaw were added in the offseason to bolster the defensive front seven.

The Jets used their first-round pick on former Penn State offensive tackle Olu Fashanu.

Super Bowl Odds: Jets Have Some Work To Do

The Jets haven’t been to the Super Bowl since Joe Namath led the franchise to a huge upset of the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.

Since then, the Jets have won multiple playoff games in the same season just three times and haven’t been in the postseason since losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-19 in the 2010 AFC Championship Game.

There is plenty of young talent on both sides of the ball. However, beating out the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the other AFC contenders just to make it into the playoffs might be asking a bit much.

Conference Odds: A Chance For Some Early Success

As referenced above, there are teams that are viewed as better options to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

If the Jets get into the playoffs, who knows what can happen?

Although the season begins with a matchup against last year’s Super Bowl finalist San Francisco 49ers, after that, there are some winnable games with the Jets playing the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings. Other than the Titans, who will likely lean on second-year quarterback Will Levis, the other teams could be starting rookie quarterbacks.

Even if the Jets are 3-2 after five games, that could bode well for the Jets to finally return to the postseason. With two matchups with the Miami Dolphins and one each versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Buffalo Bills over the final five games of the regular season, it would be a good idea for the Jets to pile up the wins early in the season.

After what happened last season, it is understandable if those who bet online are a little conservative when it comes to laying down money on the Jets this time around.

Division Odds: Can the Jets Get By Buffalo and Miami?

The arrival of Rodgers led some to go with the Jets at +250 to win the AFC East a season ago. It was looking good when the Jets edged AFC East favorite Buffalo in overtime in the season opener. The next win against another AFC East team didn’t come until the final game of the regular season as the Jets faded in the NFL Division standings.

A Week 6 home game against Buffalo could tell the tale of whether the Jets can contend for the AFC East title.

Many of the division games come late in the season, so perhaps by then, all the new pieces brought in to help the Jets make a run at the playoffs will be clicking.

The Jets are third at +200 in the odds of winning the AFC East. However, the Buffalo Bills (+170) and Miami Dolphins (+180) aren’t too far ahead of the Jets so it could be worth a what-the-heck bet to go with the Jets to win their first division title since 2002.

Regular Season Wins: Jets Need to Seal The Deal Early in the Season

The Jets haven’t had a 10-win season since 2015. Eight losing seasons have followed with New York posting a 41-90 record. It might be a little bit of wishful thinking to go with the Jets at -140 to go over 9.5 wins during the regular season.

The Jets do play nine games against teams that missed the playoffs last season. Three of the 10 losses for the Jets in 2023 came by five points or less so perhaps they aren’t that far away from a playoff spot and perhaps even a 10-win season.

To Make Playoffs: Rodgers Looks To Lead the Jets to the Promised Land

Rodgers came to New York or New Jersey if we are being geographically accurate to make a run at another Super Bowl. It won’t be easy with plenty of AFC powerhouses vying for playoff spots.

The Jets were in the middle of the pack among AFC teams in scoring defense. If they take even small steps, that could be enough since an offense led by Rodgers should be much more productive than what was out there in 2023.

The NFL preseason schedule for the Jets begins with a home game against the Washington Commanders. That will be followed by a matchup with the Carolina Panthers and then the annual preseason showdown with the New York Giants.

Side Bets

Robert Saleh is tied for seventh at +1600 in the NFL Coach of the Year odds. Haason Reddick is at +4000 and cornerback Sauce Gardner is at +5000 in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year odds.

Keep an eye on Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson who are priced at +1800 and +2500 to be the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Ten players, all of them quarterbacks, have shorter Most Valuable Player odds than Rodgers who is currently at +1800 as he looks to tie Peyton Manning with a record fifth MVP award.

Rodgers is 11th at +2000 in the odds to be the NFL passing yardage leader. Hall (+700) trails only Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers and Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL rushing leader odds while Wilson is currently eighth at +1400 in the receiving yards odds.
