2024 NFL Cheat Sheet: San Francisco 49ers Stats & Odds

49ers Are So Close To Breaking Through

Yet again, the San Francisco 49ers were one of the best teams in the NFL in the 2023 season but they fell just short of that elusive Super Bowl title under Kyle Shanahan, losing 25-22 to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII after leading at halftime, with under two minutes left in the 4th quarter, and in overtime.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

They went 12-5 in the regular season, beating the preseason 11-win over/under, and the 2024 49ers stats expectations predict another big season in the Bay Area.

Don’t Fix What It Isn’t Broken

It hasn’t been the busiest offseason for the 49ers who, frankly, don’t really need to change much from a very successful yet ultimately disappointing 2023 campaign.

The offense looks most the same after finishing third in the NFL in scoring offense with the exception of Logan Thomas, the new No. 2 tight end behind George Kittle.

Thomas is coming off a good year with the Washington Commanders and while he won’t necessarily change up the NFL playoffs odds much for San Francisco, Kyle Shanahan always knows how to maximize his weapons and Thomas is a useful piece.

The 49ers did go heavy at wide receiver in the NFL draft, selecting Ricky Pearsall out of Florida in the 1st round and Jacob Cowing out of Arizona in the 4th round.

Pearsall can play pretty much anywhere on the outside while Cowing is only 5’8″ with elite speed, so he figures to be more of a slot guy who can also help on special teams.

You can be sure that Shanahan will be able to utilize his skillset in a variety of ways.

  • The big changes were on defense. The 2024 49ers stats still figure to be very good — in 2023, they gave up just 17.5 points per game — but the front-seven looks very different.

Defensive linemen Maliek Collins and Leonard Floyd and linebacker De’Vondre Campbell are in while Arik Armstead, Chase Young, Javon Kinlaw and Sebastian Joseph-Day are gone.

The Armstead loss is big but San Francisco is so deep on that side of the ball that the 49ers’ defense is going to be awesome again.

  • Once again, this team is clearly the best in the NFC West and should eclipse its 11.5-win total, much like it did to the 11-win total a season ago.

Brock Purdy has another year of seasoning under his belt and Christian McCaffrey has a new contract. This team is loaded.

This Might Finally Be 49ers’ Super Bowl Year

Until further notice, the 49ers are major Super Bowl contenders. They have one of the best offenses in the NFL and one of the best defenses in the NFL to go with an elite coaching staff and superstars all over the place.

  • The NFL scores and odds have them with the best NFL odds to win the Lombardi Trophy this year at +500. Before last season, they closed at +1000. That shows how much hype there (rightfully) is around the 49ers right now.

San Francisco Still Headlines NFC

  • Understandably, San Francisco is also a huge favorite (+225) to win the NFC for the third time in the last six years. Last season, they were +350 to win the conference, just below the Philadelphia Eagles at +300.

Now, the next-closest contender is the upstart Detroit Lions who the 49ers barely beat in the NFC Championship Game. On paper, though, San Francisco is by far the most well-rounded NFC team and should be right in the mix once again.

49ers Not Winning NFC West Would Be Major Surprise

San Francisco has also won the NFC West two years in a row and, right now, barring something drastic changing before the season starts, it’s the 49ers’ division to lose.

  • They’re currently -200 to notch the division crown as an even bigger favorite than they were before the 2023 campaign (-165).

The Los Angeles Rams have gotten worse — Aaron Donald’s retirement looms large — and neither the Seattle Seahawks or Arizona Cardinals figure to be particularly competitive.

San Francisco Only Got Better

Just about the only concern with the 2024 49ers stats is the status of Brandon Aiyuk. San Francisco’s elite wideout wants an extension and has been negotiating with the team to figure out his next contract and while things have seemed relatively contentious, it appears that both sides will be able to work something out.

That’s huge because with Aiyuk, McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, the 49ers have easily the best running back/top two wide receiver/tight end group in the league.

  • No wonder their win total is a high 11.5 wins (over at +115 and under at -145).

Outside of the six divisional games, the 49ers’ schedule is a bit tough with road games against the Packers, Bills and Dolphins as well as home contests against the Jets (who could be very good or really bad), Chiefs, Cowboys and Lions.

That’s a lot of games against potential contenders which is why there is so much value on the over.

It Would Be Shocking For 49ers To Miss Postseason

The 49ers were -450 to make the playoffs last season and are even bigger favorites to do so this season at -500. Besides NFL injuries to Purdy and McCaffrey and maybe one of the pass-catchers, it’s just hard to imagine San Francisco not reaching the postseason this season.

The NFC isn’t particularly deep and the NFC West is not particularly good beyond the 49ers.

Look For McCaffrey To Dominate Again

  • The NFL preseason schedule can’t come soon enough for the 49ers who are +550 to win the most games in the NFL (tied with the Ravens and just behind the Chiefs at +500).

This team should be a juggernaut and gets to benefit from not being in the same conference as either Baltimore or Kansas City.

It should also be a huge year for McCaffrey after he signed an extension to keep him in the Bay Area for awhile.

  • After winning AP Offensive Player of the Year last season, he’s favored to repeat at +700. He also is +4000 to win NFL MVP and +275 to lead the NFL in rushing yards yet again.

Pretty much any McCaffrey-related bet is a smart one as he’s a workhouse in a perfect situation in Shanahan’s offense.
