Can Brock Purdy Take Another Step in 2024?

2024 Brock Purdy Season Odds List QB Among MVP Favorites

Proving his success as an NFL rookie was no fluke, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy took another step forward last season in his development. He led the league in passer rating, made his first Pro Bowl and, most notably, took San Francisco to its first Super Bowl since 2019.

Although the 49ers fell short, losing 25-22 in overtime to the Kansas Chiefs, Purdy performed well. The former Mr. Irrelevant — the nickname given to the last player selected in the NFL Draft — threw for 255 yards and a touchdown on 23-of-38 passing.

Given those accomplishments, Purdy faces immense pressure on the 2024 NFL schedule to raise the bar once more. The 49ers are again NFC favorites (+250), and the third-year quarterback may be their most important player.

What can bettors realistically expect of him? For more insight, let’s dive into the 2024 Brock Purdy season odds.

MVP Odds

Purdy was considered the frontrunner to win MVP for most of last season but plummeted down the odds board following a Week 16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Night. Purdy completed only 56.2% of his passes and was intercepted a season-high four times in a 33-19 defeat, which ended the 49ers’ six-game winning streak.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson lapped him on the odds board that night, and that was that. Purdy wound up finishing fourth in the voting for the NFL’s top honor, behind Jackson, Dak Prescott and Christian McCaffrey, his 49ers teammate.

Purdy is again among the favorites for the award, though he faces stiff competition. At +1600, Purdy is among the top 10 contenders behind Patrick Mahomes (+500), Josh Allen (+800), Joe Burrow (+1000), C.J. Stroud (+1000), Jordan Love (+1400), Jackson (+1400) and Jalen Hurts (+1400).

So long as the 49ers keep winning, Purdy will receive strong consideration. But he’ll need to win over doubters who insist he’s nothing more than a game-manager.

As always, it’s important to track the movement of these 2024 Brock Purdy season odds over the next few weeks and months.

Offensive Player of the Year Odds

Purdy isn’t anywhere near the top contenders to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year. Despite his teams’ success, Purdy generally doesn’t post huge statistics. He surpassed 300 yards just five times last season, topping out at 368 yards in a 28-16 win over Seattle in Week 14. He also had five games with at least three touchdown passes, twice throwing for four scores. Altogether, Purdy threw for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns on 69.3% passing.

Offensively, the 49ers ranked second in yards per game (398.4) and third in scoring (28.9) per NFL team stats.

Most impressive was Purdy’s ability to limit mistakes. He threw only 11 interceptions, four of which came in one game. He followed that with a strong showing during the postseason, where the top-seeded 49ers came from behind in wins over Green Bay and Detroit.

Purdy finished seventh for NFL Offensive Player of the Year, receiving only one second-place vote. Meanwhile, McCaffrey, who ran for 1,459 yards and scored 21 touchdowns (14 rushing, seven receiving) took home top honors. Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Dallas wide receiver CeeDee Lamb rounded out the top three finishers.

Heading into 2024, Purdy isn’t anywhere near the top of the odds board. That distinction is reserved for Hill (+700), with McCaffrey (+750) and Lamb (+900) the only other players at better than 10/1.

Judging by recent history, it’ll take a lot for Purdy to overcome those odds. Six of the last seven winners have played positions other than quarterback, with Mahomes the lone outlier in 2018. Be sure to keep that in mind when assessing the 2024 Brock Purdy season odds.

Passing Yards

Over 3900.5: -110

Under 3900.5: -110

Last season, Purdy ranked fifth in passing yards (4,280) with an average of 267.5 per game. Bettors can reasonably expect Purdy to at least meet, if not exceed, those totals in 2024 as the 49ers put more on his plate.

Between 19 regular season and playoff games, Purdy topped 250 yards 13 times. A few of those performances came without one of his biggest playmakers in receiver Deebo Samuel.

If Kyle Shanahan shows trust in Purdy — and there’s no reason he shouldn’t — he will breeze past this total.

Touchdown Passes

Over 28.5: +110

Under 28.5: -135

Only four quarterbacks threw 30-plus touchdown passes last season, Purdy included. Purdy had at least one touchdown throw in all but two games. One of those was the Baltimore loss in which he was benched.

This is a high bar to clear, but San Francisco should feature one of the NFL’s highest-scoring offenses. Purdy will presumably play a big role in that.
