New Receivers Should Help Mahomes In 2024

2024 Patrick Mahomes Season Odds: Take the Overs

Fresh off another Super Bowl win, there are very high expectations for Patrick Mahomes heading into this year’s season. Since coming into the league with the Kansas City Chiefs, Mahomes has won three Super Bowls in his career. Those three Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl wins came in only four games. Mahomes is quickly becoming one of the best NFL players of all-time.

However, while he was terrific in the playoffs, throughout last year’s season, Mahomes wasn’t perfect. Ultimately, he didn’t have a great depth chart of receivers and wasn’t protected very well.

Even after winning the Super Bowl against the 49ers, the Chiefs’ front office was very aware of this. Therefore, the Chiefs added veteran star Marquise Brown to pair with young wide receiver Rashee Rice. They also added speedster and rookie Xavier Worthy.

They’re hoping Worthy and Brown can make a difference in the passing game and give Mahomes better options to stay consistent throughout the season.

Having those two additions certainly won’t hurt. Let’s take a look at the 2024 Patrick Mahomes season odds below.

Patrick Mahomes’ Passing Yards

  • 4350.5 (O/U -110/-110)

Although Patrick Mahomes had another terrific season last year, he only finished sixth in the NFL in passing yards with 4,183. He wasn’t even top five in touchdowns and held a QBR of 63.1, which was 8th-best in the league.

However, in the first game of the season, Mahomes’ top target was Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who hauled in two catches for 48 yards against the Lions. Rashee Rice was starting as a rookie and caught three balls for 29 yards. Additionally, Richie James, Justyn Ross, Kadarius Toney, and other wide receivers barely produced.

By the end of the season, Rashee Rice became the go-to guy, but nobody else really solidified their chances at becoming the other wide receiver for Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Things should be different this year.

The Chiefs are typically good at fitting in speed in their offense. Xavier Worthy, selected by the Chiefs, had a record-breaking 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine of 4.21. In the passing game, quick screens and small routes could lead to big gains for Mahomes.

While Rashee Rice has had his moments off the field, he broke out from an NFL statistics perspective. The connection between himself and Mahomes really started to form throughout the second portion of the season and into the playoffs.

Rice finished the season with 938 yards on 79 catches.

Meanwhile, Marquise Brown only hauled in 574 yards receiving for the Cardinals last year. But he had a 1,000-yard season with the Ravens in Year 3 and has much potential in this Chiefs offense.

Finally, Mahomes can throw to Travis Kelce. Yes, Kelce is aging. Yes, he didn’t have his best season last year. However, Kelce still added 93 catches for 984 yards with five touchdowns. Plus, the Chiefs arguably have an easier NFL season schedule this season.

Ultimately, we can argue Mahomes has the best receivers he’s ever had with the Chiefs heading into this season. Therefore, we’d back the Over when looking at the 2024 Patrick Mahomes season odds.

Patrick Mahomes’ Passing Touchdowns

  • 34.5 Passing Touchdowns (O/U +115/-140)

Before last season, Patrick Mahomes hit at least 35 passing touchdowns in three consecutive seasons. He’s added at least 37 passing touchdowns in four of his six seasons as the starting quarterback for the Chiefs. In his first season as the starter, Mahomes literally added 50 passing touchdowns.

That’s when people knew he was going to be a special player.

But as mentioned above, Mahomes and the Chiefs might have the best group of receivers that they’ve ever had this season. Typically, Mahomes is just able to help make a receiver. But this year, he already has receivers that have had real success in the NFL. He also has an epic prospect like Xavier Worthy, who will bring elite speed to the offense.

Although the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, they knew the offense could be better. Therefore, we’d expect Mahomes to have a better year overall in the regular season and earn at least 35 passing touchdowns. The NFL game scores will favor the Chiefs a lot this season.

Patrick Mahomes To Win MVP

  • NFL MVP Odds: +500

Mahomes is currently No. 1 on the odds board to win this season’s MVP. He’s already won the award twice, including in the 2022 season.

In 2022, he achieved a season-best 5,250 yards passing and added 41 passing touchdowns with only 12 interceptions. His completion percentage was 67.1%, and his QB rating exceeded 105.

With a better group of receivers, the expectation is that Mahomes will put up the same stats, if not better. Ultimately, Mahomes completed 67.2% of passes last season, which was his best rate in the NFL ever. Now he’s got more playmakers who can create bigger plays down the field.

The +500 odds won’t give you the best value, but he certainly has a chance to win the MVP award this season. The projected 2024 Patrick Mahomes season odds like his chance just as much.
