Rookie Watch: Ladd McConkey Season Odds and Props

Ladd McConkey OROY Odds, Predictions and More

The 34th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft was Ladd McConkey to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers no longer have the elite pass catching veterans of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, so McConkey comes onto the team with high potential. The Chargers traded up three spots just to grab him, showing their belief in his ability to become their number one receiver.

McConkey’s receiving yards prop opened at 775.5 over (+100)/ under (-120) and his touchdown prop is 4.5 over (+120)/ under (-140). Since then, the oddsmakers have lost some faith in McConkey’s receiving yards prop. His prop has since dropped to 725.5 over (-110)/ under(-110). His touchdown prop has stayed the same but the over/unders have changed to +125 over and -150 under.

Let’s dive into the Ladd McConkey OROY Odds and see what we can find to make some NFL predictions.

McConkey’s Impressive College Career

Ladd McConkey’s college career at the University of Georgia was a successful one, culminating in him being a coveted prospect for the NFL. He played a key role on Georgia’s team that won back-to-back National Championships. While not always the primary receiver, McConkey displayed leadership and consistent production. Over his four years, he amassed 119 receptions for 1,687 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He made his mark early, earning Freshman All-SEC honors with a strong debut season. As a freshman McConkey amassed 31 receptions for 447 yards and five touchdowns. McConkey’s versatility extended beyond receiving. He contributed with rushing yards and even showed talent as a punt returner. However, injuries in his senior year raised some concerns about his durability going into the NFL Draft.

His sophomore season was his best, grabbing 58 receptions for 762 yards and scoring seven receiving touchdowns. He also got involved in the running game the most during his sophomore season, carrying the ball seven times for 134 yards and two touchdowns. McConkey added to his big offensive season by chipping in the on punt return as well. He had 16 attempts for 197 yards.

Concerns exist regarding McConkey’s size (6-foot, 186 pounds) and injury history. He missed games in his senior year due to back and ankle NFL injuries. However, the Chargers’ medical staff expressed confidence in his durability, citing his commitment to playing through adversity.

Rookie Number One Option Potential

The Ladd McConkey OROY odds currently are +3000 and his receiving props are currently 725.5 over (-110)/ under(-110) for total yards and 4.5 over(+125)/ under (-150). McConkey has the third shortest odds to have the most receiving yards as a rookie. Here are how the odds are breaking down:

Most Regular Season Rookie Receiving Yards NFL Odds:

  • Marvin Harrison Jr. +150
  • Malik Nabers +480
  • Ladd McConkey +700
  • Keon Coleman +850
  • Xavier Worthy +1200
  • Rome Odunze +1200

To lead the league straight up in receiving yards he is an even bigger longshot, but the fact that he even has odds available tells you how much upside he may have. McConkey is +16000 to have the most receiving yards in the league.

Time will tell exactly what role McConkey will have on the Chargers, but it certainly seems like he will have the opportunities to get a big offensive share. That being said, he does not have a whole lot of other talented offensive players around him (outside of his quarterback Herbert), and could be subject to a lot of defensive attention.
