Will A Change of Scenery Benefit Speedy WR Jerry Jeudy?

Will the 2024 Jerry Jeudy Season Odds See Him Fulfill His Potential?

Former Alabama Receiver Jerry Jeudy Looks To Start Fresh in Cleveland

After four solid but somewhat underwhelming seasons with the Denver Broncos, Jerry Jeudy was traded to Cleveland for a pair of draft picks. The 2024 Jerry Jeudy season odds project him to put up similar numbers to what he did while he was in Denver.

  • There are 54 pass catchers with better odds to lead the NFL in receiving yards during the regular season than Jeudy’s +8000 odds. Josh Downs of the Indianapolis Colts, the Green Bay duo of Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, Adam Thielen of the Carolina Panthers, and Josh Palmer of the Los Angeles Chargers are other receivers with +8000 odds to lead the NFL in receiving yards.

NFL free agents saw defensive end Za’Darius Smith re-sign with the Browns. The team further bolstered its strong defense by adding linebacker Jordan Hicks and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson is in the top 20 in the NFL MVP odds. If the MVP award placed less emphasis on offensive players, Myles Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, would have a stronger case for MVP consideration.

Ready for a New Start

The Cleveland Browns gave troubled quarterback Deshaun Watson a chance to move forward after some legal issues led the Houston Texans to trade him away.

Jeudy heads to Cleveland hoping to be a top target for Watson even with somewhat tame 2024 Jerry Jeudy season odds.

Cleveland’s best receiver is Amari Cooper and he is currently holding out. David Bell, Elijah Moore, James Proche, Cedric Tillman, and Michael Woods are among the other receivers on the current roster for the Browns.
There could be opportunities for Jeudy to put up some career-best numbers this season.

The 25-year-old’s best season in Denver came in 2022 when he had 67 catches for 972 yards as well as six touchdown catches

  • He is priced at +105 to go over 725.5 receiving yards and is at -125 to finish under that number.
  • The odds are also at +105 for Jeudy to exceed 3.5 receiving touchdowns and -125 to finish with three TDs or less.

Jeudy Has All The Tools

National champ freshman Jeudy followed with two 1,000-yard seasons at Alabama before the 2020 Draft. As a sophomore, Jeudy won the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the top receiver in college football after having 1,315 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

In the pre-draft process, he was measured at 6-foot-1 and 193 pounds. Jeudy ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds, had a 35-inch vertical jump, and a broad jump of 10-0. He was viewed as one of the top receiving prospects in the draft and it was not a surprise to see him be the second receiver drafted.

All the measurables couldn’t overshadow Jeudy’s issues with dropped passes in the NFL. He had 10 drops as a rookie and he caught just 59% of the passes when he was the targeted receiver and that pales to other receivers who came into the league in 2020. That is impacting his 2024 Jerry Jeudy season odds as is the Cleveland Browns run-first offense.

What Might Have Been

Drafted second overall among wide receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft, Jerry Jeudy has outperformed his former Alabama teammate Henry Ruggs. After a car crash that caused the other driver’s death, the Las Vegas Raiders released Henry Ruggs. He faced charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

As a result, many of the receivers taken after the Denver Broncos’ selection of Jeudy (15th overall) are enjoying better NFL careers.

Cowboys’ Lamb (drafted after Jeudy) had a stellar season with 135 catches, 1,749 yards & 12 TDs. He leads the 2020 draft class with 395 career catches.

Minnesota grabbed Justin Jefferson with the 22nd overall pick and no player drafted in 2020 has more receiving yards than Jefferson. Michael Pittman of the Indianapolis Colts, Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers, and Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals were also drafted after Jeudy but have been much more productive players.

What About the Browns

Cleveland won 11 games to get into the playoffs even after injuries to Watson and running back Nick Chubb.
There will be plenty of eyes on Jeudy when Cleveland goes to Denver for a Monday Night Football appearance on Dec. 2. It will be interesting to see how Denver fans “welcome” Jeudy back.

The season begins on Sept. 8 with Cleveland a one-point underdog at home against the Dallas Cowboys. There are also matchups with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles in the first six games of 2024.

  • Cleveland is tied for ninth at +2000 in the odds of representing the AFC in the Super Bowl. At +550, the Browns are behind the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North Division odds. The Browns are a bit undervalued at +150 to make the playoffs, with -130 odds to go over 8.5 wins during the regular season. There are 16 teams with better odds of winning the Super Bowl than Cleveland at +4000.

The Browns, similar to their newest receiver, are a bit underrated in the 2024 NFL predictions.

Maybe that will change after Cleveland plays the Green Bay Packers, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason.
