Road Warrior Stars Win Again, Lead Series 2-1

Jason Robertson Netted Hat Trick as Stars Edged Oilers

NHL: Stars Continue To Be Road Warriors, Lead Series 2-1

Jason Robertson completed his game-three hat trick with a third-period game-winner. The Dallas Stars continue to win away from home after a 5-3 game-three victory against the Edmonton Oilers. Dallas moved up 2-1 in the Conference Finals over Edmonton. The Stars vs Oilers NHL odds still favor Edmonton at -130 as the home team for Game 4.

Dallas has 10 postseason wins with six coming on the road against one loss. Edmonton dropped to 4-3 at Rogers Place in the postseason, adding to a less-than-stellar home record of 14-15 (-6.61 units) since 2017.

Oddsmakers opened Edmonton as a -125 favorite, but that number has been bet up to -130 with a total of 6 (under -120).

Dallas Claws Out Of Early Deficit

The Edmonton Oilers were on their way to a series lead after taking a 2-0 first-period lead after the NHL MVP odds (Hart Trophy) favorite Connor McDavid smashed home his fourth goal of the postseason at the 7:37 mark of the first period.

Edmonton bettors were celebrating but we know now that was just the Stars and Roope Hintz kicking the rust off after not playing since game four against the Colorado Avalanche. The 30-goal scorer contributed two assists and helped Dallas widen the depth gap between them and the Oilers. Hintz is an exceptional playmaker, bringing postseason experience with 75 games played while contributing 57 points overall.

Jason Robertson scored for the first time since game five against the Vegas Golden Knights. It was apparent that the return of Hintz allowed Robertson more room on the ice.

If there is room for criticism in victory, Dallas again looked lethargic in the first period. It got outshot 10-3. Over the last two games, Pete DeBoer’s team has been outshot 26-7 in the opening 20 minutes. Overall the Stars have averaged just 14 shots in 60 first-period minutes in the series.

Dallas scored five times on 19 shots the rest of the way, including two goals on just three shots in the third period. They’ll carry a 2-1 series lead into Game 4. But there has to be concern that the Oilers can shut down the Stars’ offense for larger periods.

Oilers Will Look To Keep Scoring Low In Game Four

The Edmonton Oilers can match superstars with anyone in the league, but the trouble comes when they try to match weapons. They surely have the bigger guns but the Stars who are better defensively and own have the better netminder.

You may look to the hots allowed and say that Chris Knoblauch’s team was trying to play a lockdown style and for as much as they have had success protecting Stuart Skinner (17 saves), they have taken the foot off the pedal at times and that’s where the Stars scoring depth have made the Oilers pay.

After giving up just three shots to find their way to Skinner in the first period, Edmonton allowed 16 in the second resulting in three Dallas goals which turned a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 deficit. Forget what we knew about the Oilers in the regular season because the postseason is a different animal altogether.

Take a step back into the Vancouver Canucks series and it was easy to see how much more effective Edmonton was in low-scoring games because the result came down to just a few plays instead of a flurry of scoring chances in a high-paced affair. We can agree that on most nights the Oilers will have the advantage when it comes down to which team superstars shine the brightest.

In the regular season, Edmonton can outscore their defensive mistakes, which won’t and hasn’t been the same in the playoffs. We conclude our Stars vs Oilers odds preview with our official selection.

Plus Money Is The Side Again

The almost always entertaining NHL scores involving these two clubs will be no different in game four. We advise waiting until puck-drop to get involved in this one because you can bet the Oiler backers will be out in full force. We’ve already seen the moneyline move a nickel in favor of Edmonton. This gives us +110 back with Dallas per the Stars vs Oilers NHL odds.

We’re hoping to get at least +115 before placing our wager. Dallas is 4-1 as an underdog (+3.07 units) adding to their pot of 11.85 units won (27-23) as a postseason dog since 2016. Only the Vancouver Canucks can come close to matching that mark with 10.26 units won (16-11).

Give us Dallas and the plus money in game four. That concludes our Stars vs Oilers odds preview, all the best with your NHL picks and parlays this week.
