China to Test USA for Most Golds at Paris Olympics

USA, China Lead 2024 Medal Props/Specials

The Paris Olympics are just around the corner, and there are some excellent 2024 medal props/specials available. Headlining betting markets is the race for the most gold medals, and it looks like a two-country battle between the USA and China.

With only one gold between them at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, it’s likely to be a close race again.

Gold Goes to China

China won a total of 89 medals in 2020, but 38 of them were gold. It’s a great strike rate, and although they were behind the USA’s total of 39 golds, we think China can turn the tables on the sporting powerhouse.

Chinese athletes continue to get better, and although sheer numbers are in favor of the USA, there is much better value with China at +350.

They put a lot of money into their Olympic sports, and we can’t turn down the value with the Olympic Games betting lines.

USA is a -750 chance to win the most golds, and we don’t see much value with that option. They have many chances to win gold, but China will win a lot of gold in the pool, and that’s where the difference could be.

Say what you want about the reputation of Chinese athletes, they get the job done, and they could top 2024 medal props/specials.

USA Blitzes Total Medals Table

We can’t see the USA being beaten for total medals, which is why it’s the -2500 favorite.

Boasting 113 total medals in 2020, compared to the next best China at 89, the American medal count should be much higher than the opposition.

Paris Olympic dates start on July 26, and the USA could start winning medals from the outset. It’s likely to be a successful Olympics for Team USA, given the favorable conditions in Paris.

Many US athletes are in good form, so they should rack up big numbers, especially with silver and bronze medals.

Interestingly, the USA has failed to medal in only five sports at the Olympics, including trampoline, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, handball, and badminton.

We can’t see that changing in Paris, but the USA is still likely to excel in most other disciplines.

CBS Sports projected a total of 123 medals for the USA.

“Athletics and swimming are still the key to success though with just under half of US medals projected to be won in those two sports,” the projection read.

The USA dominates athletics, so it’s the pool where the big difference over the likes of China, Australia, and Japan could materialize.

Our 2024 medal props/specials have the USA winning the most medals at -2500. It’s a short quote, but it’s worth including in Olympics parlays.

Team USA Under 41.5 Golds

Bettors get -115 for the USA to win under 41.5 golds, and we can’t turn down those odds.

We’re rooting for Team USA to perform well, but we can’t see them winning more golds in Paris than they did in Tokyo.

Conditions are different, so we’ll give them that. However, Caeleb Dressel won five golds himself in 2020, and we don’t think he’s at his best for Paris.

The legendary swimmer was incredible in Tokyo, with all five of his medals being gold. If he’s not up to his best, those lack of golds will negatively affect USA’s gold medal count.

Having won 39 golds in 2020, the USA would need to win three more to cover the number in the sportsbook.

That’s a tough ask, so we’re backing the under.

Great Britain’s Line is Generous

The gold medal line for Team GB is 14.5, which is lower than expected following a 22-gold performance in Tokyo.

We’re surprised by the number of 2024 medal props/specials, and we’re not surprised to see the over 14.5 being heavily backed.

It’s into -200, and we think the line needs to move. Great Britain was excellent four years ago, and dropping to under 14.5 golds would be a massive disappointment.

We can’t see that happening, so include Team GB over 14.5 golds in your Olympic bets.

Orange You Glad You Backed Netherlands?

Excuse the terrible Netherlands-related pun, and instead back the Netherlands to win under 15.5 gold medals. The country, that wears orange when they compete, won 10 golds in Tokyo, and there is a lot higher expectation in Paris.

We think it’s unwarranted, and although they are strong in cycling and with a couple of athletics competitors, we can’t see them winning six more golds. That’s a sizable increase in productivity, and that’s assuming their gold medal hopefuls do their job and win.

Getting such a high line was unexpected, so back the under at -115.
