The women’s handball Olympic competition has been primarily dominated by three countries the last couple Olympics.
France, Russia and Norway have been the top tier talent when it comes to women’s handball.
Those three teams were the three medaling teams both in Rio in 2016 as well as in Tokyo in 2020. Now, with Russia banned from Olympic competition, there is room for a new team on the podium.
The gold will still likely be a battle between France and Norway, France having the advantage being the defending champions from Tokyo and now playing on their home court.
Let’s dive into the Olympics Women Handball Odds and see who is the best bet to win gold.

The Top Two
As the odds imply, there are really two teams that have separated themselves from the rest for this Olympic competition.
France and Norway are expected to battle it out for gold, especially with Russia out of the mix.
These teams recently faced each other in the 2023 World Championship Final, and handball fans are hoping for a rematch in the gold medal match this August.
France, coming off winning their first women’s handball gold medal in Tokyo, are led by cand Pauletta Foppa.
Foppa scored seven goals in their Tokyo gold medal game, and will lead the team once again in Paris. Minko was on the Wold Championship All-Star team and has scored 397 goals in 169 appearances for France.
France also has Lena Gradveau, the 2023 International Handball Federations’ Young Female Player of the Year. France’s team, “Les Bleues” were a perfect 9-0 in the 2023 World Championships, and will look to continue their excellence these Olympics.
Boasting an impressive collection of medals, Norway’s “Håndballjentene” stands out as a top contender in the Olympics. Their achievements are a testament to their consistent excellence.
Norway has won the bronze medal in the last two Olympics. They lost a hard fought battle, 31-28 to France in the 2023 World Women’s Handball Championships, and will look to exact revenge in the Olympics.
Norway is led by Henny Reistad, the IHF player of the year.
The Field Has A Chance
Most fans and Olympics Women Handball Odds bettors are not going to take a team outside of France or Norway to take home gold. Denmark at +680 is the only team with a solid chance.
Denmark returns to the Olympic stage after missing the last two tournaments. At the World Championships, the Danes secured a hard-fought bronze medal.
They fell just short of gold in a nail-biting final against Norway, losing by a narrow 27-25 margin.
France and Norway are expected to battle it out for gold, especially with Russia out of the mix.
One of Denmark’s key players to watch is left back Kristina Jorgensen.
The 26-year-old impressed at the World Championships, ranking third in total goals scored with 47 on 74 shots.
Her accuracy and scoring prowess will be crucial for Denmark’s success.
The Netherlands used to be a powerhouse in the sport, grabbing a top three finish in the World Championships in 2015, 2017 and 2019 (when they won gold).
They only finished fifth in the 2020 Olympics and haven’t placed in Euros or the World Championships in a few years. They have a veteran team that will look to reclaim past glory.
Sweden also has a long shot to make some noise in this tournament. They are in the tougher group (Group A), but that could provide helpful in sharpening their skills, assuming they make it out of group play.
They lost in 2020 in the bronze medal game, and will look to get another shot at the podium.
