Can Novak Shake Off the Rust And Win Another Wimbledon Title?

Australian Open Champ Sinner, Defending Wimbledon Winner Alcaraz Lead 2024 Wimbledon Men's Outright Odds

  • Djokovic and Murray confirm Wimbledon participation despite injuries.
  • Favorites Sinner and Alcaraz could face Djokovic and Rublev in the semifinals.
  • Key first-round matches: Korda vs. Fokina, Evans vs. Tabilo.

Despite Injury Concerns, Former Champions Djokovic and Murray Enter Wimbledon

After some anxious days, Wimbledon officials got the news they were hoping for when seven-time men’s singles champion Novak Djokovic, as well as Andy Murray, confirmed that they intend to play in the tournament despite dealing with injuries. Neither of them headline the 2024 Wimbledon Men’s outright odds.

Top-seeded Jannik Sinner and defending champions Carlos Alcaraz are the players to beat.

Sinner and Alcaraz could meet in the semifinals with Djokovic and Andrey Rublev on a possible collision course in the semifinals.

Sinner is sure to draw plenty of tennis betting action at +160 to win his first Wimbledon title despite a challenging draw. Alcaraz isn’t far behind at +175 as he looks to join Djokovic, Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, John McEnroe, and Bjorn Borg as men’s players in the last 50 years to win back-to-back Gentlemen’s Singles titles at Wimbledon.

When looking at scores, keep an eye out for the match in the Eastbourne semifinals for top American hopeful Taylor Fritz as that could impact the ATP live rankings. The biggest move in the top 10 came when Hubert Hurkacz jumped from ninth to seventh.

Wimbledon begins on Monday with the champion being crowned on July 14. When looking for Wimbledon scores, some first-round matchups to keep an eye on include American Sebastian Korda meeting Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Daniel Evans facing Alejandro Tabilo, and Nicolas Jarry squaring off with Denis Shapovalov.

Can Sinner Break Through?

Sinner won his first career Grand Slam earlier this year when he topped Djokovic in the semifinals and then rallied past Daniil Medvedev in five sets in the Australian Open final.

Sinner has been inching closer to winning Wimbledon as he lost in the first round in 2021, got to the 2022 quarterfinals, and advanced to the 2023 semifinals.

Tallon Griekspoor could be the first-seeded player he could see.

No. 5 seed Daniil Medvedev could be waiting in the quarterfinals while No. 10 Grigor Dimitrov and American Ben Shelton are other seeded players to keep an eye on in this portion of the draw.

  • Medvedev is a little undervalued at +1600 in the 2024 Wimbledon Men’s outright odds. Dimitrov is priced at +2500 at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz Eyeing Another Wimbledon Run

A third-round showdown between Alcaraz and talented American Frances Tiafoe is sure to make plenty of news in the first week of Wimbledon.

Casper Ruud is a possible quarterfinal opponent. However, Ruud has never advanced past the second round in his four appearances in the main draw at Wimbledon. There are 16 players with shorter odds to win Wimbledon than Ruud who is currently at +6600 in the 2024 Wimbledon Men’s Outright odds.

If Ruud stumbles again, that could open the door for American Tommy Paul. Paul is coming off a win at the Queens Club Championships. It was his first ATP singles title on grass.

Ugo Humbert and Sebastian Baez are other seeded players that Alcaraz might have to contend with as he looks to reach his sixth straight quarterfinal at a Grand Slam.

Can Djokovic Return to the Top?

Djokovic’s bid to win a record-tying eighth Wimbledon title ended when Alcaraz won 6-4 in the fifth set in the 2023 singles final. Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray had combined to win the last 19 Wimbledon titles.

Federer is retired, Nadal is not in this year’s Wimbledon, and Murray is nearing retirement. That leaves Djokovic as the last of the Big 4 as a title contender at Wimbledon. He is the No. 3 favorite at +400.

Djokovic hasn’t played since a knee injury kept him from taking the court against Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals of the French Open. There were concerns about Djokovic’s availability for this tournament.

It would be incredible theater if Djokovic and Murray were to meet in the quarterfinals. However, Murray might need to get through Francisco Cerundolo and Hubert Hurkacz to make that happen. Hurkacz has +1500 odds to win the title.

  • Alex de Minaur (+2000), Holger Rune (+4000), Felix Auger-Aliassime (+8000), Karen Khachanov, and Tomas Martin Echeverry are other seeded players in a stacked draw as Djokovic could have his work cut out for him.

Can Fritz Make a Run?

No U.S. player has won the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles title since Pete Sampras in 2000 and it is not looking promising for that to change in 2024.

Taylor Fritz has the shortest odds of +3300 among the U.S. hopefuls at +3300 followed by Sebastian Korda (+4000), Tommy Paul (+4000), and Ben Shelton (+6600). He is the only one of those players who has advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Fritz has a reasonable draw beginning with Christopher O’Connell in the first round. A potential match in the third round against No. 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas won’t be easy. The draw also includes British hopefuls Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie.

There has been plenty of early money coming in on Draper as he is now at +2000 in the 2024 Wimbledon Men’s outright odds.

  • Alexander Zverev is a threat to win the tournament with +1500 odds with Rublev at +6600.
